One More Year Reviews

Okay, so I have totally been procrastinating when it comes to One More Year by Sara Krasikov. I put it down and can't make myself pick it back up so I thought I would just post some links to reviews others have written.

A Writer's Pen (recommends)

Kathleen's Book Reviews (5 stars)

In the Shadow of Mt. TBR (2.5 stars)

Obviously, I tend to agree with In the Shadow of Mt. TBR...

  1. I do tend to be in the minority on this book. My complaint isn't just the stories, though they are bleak and tend to go no where, it's also the writing, which seems to be ill-suited for the short story medium. The one story I really liked was the longest story in the book.

    Thanks for linking me :-)

  2. Interesting. Of the stories I read, I found the characters impossible to care about. I typically enjoy immigrant stories, but I agree that these were bleak. No redemption found here.

  3. I agree about the stories being bleak... but in my experience most short stories are.

I've had a hard time liking short stories in general because there's such a small time to get to know the characters. And most of them are depressing- because sad or violent or scary is more interesting than happy or joyful. I learned that in creative writing, although I love happy endings so I was dismayed to find this out.

I don't know. I just really enjoyed reading about these characters. But hey, each to his/her own!

    Thanks for linking.
